The journey and arriving in Madrid

We left Carrie's parents house in Allithwaite at 8:30am on Thursday 22 July 2010 and met our first M6 traffic jam 20 minutes later, before we had even passed junction 35 and Arkholme. A hot summers day in the UK was spent travelling to a hotel in Winchester, where we arrived late afternoon.  The sun shone on Friday for the ferry crossing and we rested during the 24 hours to Santander.  On Saturday 24 July, as the Spanish coast loomed, it was clear that the temperature was significantly different than that we had left behind.  The drive to Madrid took 4 hours 30 minutes and I was glad of the aircon driving the family (Carrie's) car... unfortunately, despite paying Lancaster VW a large sum of money, the aircon on the Polo (my car) was not working and Carrie and Joan endured a particularly hot journey!

Since arriving, life has been hectic trying to organise the house and learning to live in a foreign country.  the girls, however, have spent every spare moment in the pool.

Despite Phil H teaching me how to upload photos to this blog from Flickr, I have not managed... Phil, more help required!  However, the link is below.
